Museum of pre-19th-century Venetian art on the south bank of the Grand Canal in Dorsoduro (Campo della Carità, Dorsoduro 1050). Housed in the Palladian complex formed by the former Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Carità, its convent and church. Became independent from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in 1879. Holds Leonardo’s Vitruvian Man and major works by Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese; rarely opens to contemporary art.
