Unveiled 8 June 2011, the 800 mm tall, 800 g triangular torch was made from an anodised aluminium alloy with a PVD gold coating, manufactured in a run of 8,000 by Premier Sheet Metal in Coventry using die stamping, laser welding and 8,000 laser-cut circular perforations, one per torchbearer. The trilateral cross-section referenced multiple Olympic trinities, including the three Olympic values, the three-word motto and London’s third hosting of the Games.
