Contemporary architectural style based on continuous variation, differentiation and correlation of elements through computational design. The term was coined by Patrik Schumacher and launched at the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale; the founding essay “Parametricism A New Global Style for Architecture and Urban Design” followed in 2009. Antecedents include Frei Otto’s form-finding, Greg Lynn’s animate/blob architecture, and Frank Gehry’s CATIA-driven projects.
